Coyote Vision

I sense that Western Civilization has been staggering along, through the entire 20th century and into the 21st. It lurches from one crisis to another, trying to maintain itself but always in disequilibrium and in danger of falling apart.

Some philosophers say that societies depend on stories and myths. If this is true, to save ourselves – that is, our human communities – we need to change the stories and myths that underlie and motivate Western Civ. These are: Progress; Growth; Individual Achievement; and “More is better”.

Let us replace them with new stories and goals such as Powering Down [see the previous post]; Resilient Communities; Relationships; Love for all people, life on earth, and the earth itself; “We have enough.”
